After Rapid won Saturday night, in Giulesti, the first derby in the play-off, with Dinamo, score 3-2, on Sunday afternoon it was the turn of Genoa, Dan Șucu's other team, to achieve success in Italy.

Genoa won 2-0 away from Verona in a match of the 29th round of Serie A. Vitinha (61') opened the scoring after an hour of play, and Leo Østigård (86') consolidated the victory towards the end of the game. This was the third consecutive victory of the “griffins” against the team from Verona.

Genoa and Rapid made the weekend perfect for Dan Șucu

The hosts could have opened the scoring early on when Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro's cross hit the bar in an attempt to cross. The scoreboard was finally changed after an hour of play when freshman Vitinha managed to recover a ball after an intense battle in midfield, advanced and shot superbly from around 25 yards, the ball stopping in the net of Lorenzo Montipò, caught completely off guard.

The Portuguese had entered the pitch just seconds before but had an immediate impact on the match. The final point of contention came in the 86th minute when centre-back Leo Østigård headed home a cross from a free-kick to make it 2-0, sealing the fate of the points at stake.

With this victory, Genoa accumulated 33 points, achieving their second consecutive success in Serie A. Verona, for its part, is in the penultimate position, and the hopes of salvation are getting smaller and smaller.
