Bayern Munich announced on Friday the extension of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer's contract for another season, until 2027. The announcement was made official by the Bavarian club through a statement published on the official website.

The legendary goalkeeper, who will be 41 at the end of the new deal, said he was delighted with the decision and felt he was still capable of playing at the highest level. In addition to Neuer, Bayern also announced the extension of backup goalkeeper Sven Ulreich's contract for another season.

The goalkeeper stated, via the club's official page, that the decision was a well-considered one and that he still feels capable of helping the team.

It took a little longer because I wanted to take my time, it's a very important decision for me. I feel very good, I had good matches. I can help the team. We have a brilliant technical staff, an incredible squad and the opportunity to win every competition. This is the right decision and I am very happy to stay for another year,” said Manuel Neuer.

Manuel Neuer has been playing for Bayern since 2011 and has become one of the club's legends. During this period he won, among other things, 13 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League trophies.

He is the third most capped player in the club's history with 597 appearances, only surpassed by Oliver Kahn and Sepp Maier.

Chairman Herbert Hainer praised the German goalkeeper's impact, calling him a symbol of several generations at Bayern.

“Manuel Neuer holds a very special place among the exceptional goalkeepers in our club's history: he is the face of not just one but two generations and a captain who is an exceptional role model both on and off the pitch. We are proud of the way he has shaped this club for over a decade. Keep it up!”

General manager Jan-Christian Dreesen emphasized Neuer's importance in the club's history, describing him as one of the best signings in history.

“Manuel Neuer was one of the best signings in the history of our club. Almost 600 games for Bayern and we are now entering our 16th season together, which pretty much says it all about his tremendous importance. Manuel pushed the boundaries of the modern goalkeeper and, even at 40, continues to exceed expectations.

This goalkeeper, this captain, this personality will be talked about for many years to come. We are delighted that he and Sven Ulreich, the definition of reliability, will be staying with us for another season. This goalkeeping duo is one for the history books.”

Sporting director Max Eberl explained the club's strategy for the future, in which Neuer, Ulreich and the young Urbig form a complementary trio.

“We have a clear plan for our goalkeeping department and we are implementing it step by step: Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich and Jonas Urbig form a group of goalkeepers in which each has his role and which develops together. Manuel and Sven will continue to support Jonas on his way to Bayern's future. We are very much looking forward to a new season with this perfect formula.”

For his part, Christoph Freund highlighted the experience and balance brought by the three goalkeepers, considering them a unique group in European football.

“Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich have experience that others can only dream of and Jonas Urbig benefits from this in their daily interaction. All three are excellent characters who together form a unique team that you will not find at any other club in Europe.”
