In Moscow, a pensioner gave 16 million rubles to a scammer who introduced himself as her husband’s “partner”
The pensioner said that her late husband’s “partner” wrote to her and warned her that the police would soon call. She was informed that her funds were at risk and should be transferred to a “safe account.”
The 69-year-old Muscovite fulfilled all the requirements of her “partner” and waited for the courier, to whom she handed over 15 million rubles. She transferred another 1 million rubles on her own.
The courier turned out to be a 27-year-old man who wanted to earn extra money. The messenger fulfilled all the scammer’s instructions and also converted the money into cryptocurrency, leaving a small portion for himself. The courier was detained and a criminal case was opened under the article “Fraud.”
