Armed attack on a university in Virginia. Two people in critical condition

Two people were injured in an armed attack on Thursday in an academic building of Old Dominion University in Virginia, USA, and the attacker was killed, according to the announcement made by the educational institution, CNN wrote.
University officials said the attacker was “neutralized” shortly after opening fire.
“There is no longer an active threat to the campus community,” the university said.
The two injured people are in critical condition and were taken to Sentara General Hospital in Norfolk, said spokeswoman Jennifer Lewis.
The university announced that it has canceled classes and campus operations for the remainder of the day.
The attack in Constant Hall, the main building of the College of Business, happened just days before the holiday which starts on Monday.
Students, faculty and support staff received food and counseling after the incident, university president Brian Hemphill said.
“My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the incident, as well as to the entire campus and wider community,” he said in a statement.
FBI Director Kash Patel said in a post on the X platform that FBI personnel are “providing assistance and cooperating with local authorities.”
Old Dominion University has about 24,000 students, according to data provided by the educational institution. It is located in Norfolk, approximately 145 kilometers southeast of Richmond and 320 kilometers southeast of Washington, DC.
