The United States Embassy in Nigeria on Tuesday warned its citizens of possible terrorist attacks on American facilities and schools in the West African country.

In a warning, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja urged American citizens to remain “vigilant and take preventive measures.” She advised them to keep their cellphones charged so they can call for help in an emergency, to become familiar with the emergency exits of buildings they visit and to avoid gatherings.
Nigeria has been a special place for the United States for several months.
President Donald Trump accused the authorities in Abuja of allowing the genocide of Nigerian Christians and ordered the bombing of jihadist bases at the end of last yearhiding in the forests of north-eastern Nigeria. In February this year, he sent over 100 military instructors to this country to support the Nigerian army in the fight against terrorists.
After the US and Israel attacked Iran, mass protests accompanied by the slogans “Death to America!” took place in many cities in northern Nigeria, where Shiite communities live.
The day before the American embassy issued a warning, several attacks by Boko Haram terrorists took place in northeastern Nigeria, killing at least 15 people, including 12 soldiers.
Most American embassies in African countries have tightened security measures since the United States launched coordinated attacks on Iran.
Also in Liberia, where Muslims, especially Shiites, belong to a tiny minority, previously invisible policemen and soldiers armed with long weapons have been keeping vigil in front of the US Embassy on Benson Street for several days. On Tuesday, the embassy hosted a security meeting for all Americans living in the West African country.
These warnings come at a time of escalating conflict between Iran, Israel and the United States. The war between these countries began on February 28, 2026 and led to a serious reduction in Iran's combat capabilities, the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was replaced by his son Mojtaba Khamenei, and the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial for global oil trade, which resulted in a sharp increase in the price of this raw material.
