The costs of the Paris Games 2024 are EUR 6 billion

According to the Tribunal, expenses from state budgets, local governments and public companies for the organization of the Games reached EUR 2.77 billion, of which over half – EUR 1.4 billion – consumed activities related to ensuring security. An additional 3.19 billion euros was allocated to infrastructure investments, including the construction of the Olympic village in Saint-Denis or the expansion of the 14th metro line. In total, this gives EUR 5.96 billion.
This is the first such analysis of public costs incurred. The Tribunal pointed out that the presented data is a preliminary assessment, and their importance is growing in the context of preparations for the Winter Olympic Games in 2030, which will take place in the French Alps. A detailed financial report is to be published in October, and the full analysis of the heritage of the event is planned for 2026.
The Tribunal also emphasized that Current estimates do not include the analysis of the impact of the Games on the economy, although the event was described as “undoubted social and media success”.
In turn, the Organizing Committee indicates that the tribunal's data is “inadequate to reality.” The financial director of Fabrice Lacroix argues that real public expenditure is about EUR 2 billion, and the other costs relate to investments started before the games or implemented after their completion, which should not be included in the direct costs of the event.
