More and more of our western neighbors come to Poland to shop for groceries. The main reason is the prices – many products are clearly cheaper here than in German supermarkets. A shopping cart comparison shows that some items in Poland can be purchased up to half the price – we read in dlahandlu.pl
More and more residents of the border regions of Germany decide to shop in Polish grocery stores. For many customers, going above and beyond has become profitable not only for larger purchases, but also for everyday groceries.
Polish stores are easy for German customers to use. The layout of the stores, the way of labeling the shelves and the presentation of goods are largely reminiscent of those known from Germany. Thanks to this, shopping can be done efficiently and without knowing the language, which additionally encourages people to visit. An additional advantage is the convenient location of stores near main routes and border cities.
Price differences in Poland and Germany
The most noticeable differences concern the most frequently purchased food products. For example, a kilogram of apples in Polish stores costs about EUR 1.30-1.45, while in German supermarkets the popular Pink Lady variety is sometimes priced at up to EUR 3 per kilogram.
A similar situation applies to milk. In Germany, the price per liter reaches an average of EUR 1.30, while in Poland it can be purchased for 65-75 cents, i.e. less than half of this amount.
Price differences are equally clear for dairy and meat products. A package of sliced cheese weighing 150 g in Polish stores costs about EUR 1.40, while in Germany a similar product usually costs at least EUR 2.
Even greater discrepancies occur in the case of cold meats. A 50g portion of salami in German supermarkets usually costs between 1.50 and 2 euros, while in Poland it can be purchased for around 90 cents.
Such differences make cross-border shopping an attractive option also for everyday groceries.
Identical set of products, different prices
Portal journalists Nordkurier.de compared an identical set of products in Polish and German stores. The basket included, among others: eggs, bread, sliced cheese, salami, apples, milk and butter.
It turned out that such a set cost EUR 9.64 in a Polish supermarket, while the same items in a German store cost as much as EUR 19.55. The price difference is almost half.
