On this day, the Orthodox celebrate the memory of 33 martyrs, including Terenty, Pompi, African and others. They suffered for faith in the 3rd century.
In Rus', it was believed that the sun should be shown in haze on this day – that is, in the fog. From here came the nickname of St. Terenty. If the sun was surrounded by a haze at sunrise, then the year promised to be bakery, and if the sky turned out to be clear, the peasants believed that they would have to plow the field and sit down again.
In the midst there was spring off -road, streams flowed everywhere, clay and soil softened. The people said: “The road collapses to Terenty”; “Around the mud – neither drive nor pass.”
