A young military pilot died, at the Borcea air base, after trying to save a dog that had fallen into a pool of water

A 30-year-old soldier died on Tuesday evening at the 86th Borcea Air Base, the first information showing that he tried to save a dog that had fallen into a pool of water. The soldier was pulled out of the water by a colleague, and first aid measures were applied, but he could no longer be saved.
“The Ministry of National Defense announces, with deep sadness, the death of Captain Palferenț Octavian, aged 30, a soldier of the 71st Air Base “General Emanoil Ionescu”, which occurred on Tuesday, March 10, at around 5:30 p.m., in the premises of the 86th Air Base “Lieutenant Aviator Gheorghe Mociorniță”, where he was on a mission”, announces the Romanian Air Force in a statement.
According to the preliminary data, the officer intervened to save a dog that had fallen into a pool of water within the premises of the facility.
“The soldier was pulled out of the water by a nearby colleague, and first aid maneuvers were immediately initiated by the base staff, until the arrival of the Emergency Service crew. Unfortunately, despite the efforts made, his life could not be saved,” explains the Air Force.
The case is being investigated by the competent judicial bodies, in order to clarify all the circumstances of the production of this event.
“The leadership of the Ministry of National Defense, the General Staff of the Air Force and the personnel of the military units involved express their deep regret for the loss suffered and send their sincere condolences to the bereaved family. May God rest him in peace!”, the quoted source said.
