Trump and Putin spoke on the phone for an hour about Iran and Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump discussed the war in Iran and Ukraine in a “sincere and constructive” telephone conversation, the Kremlin announced Monday evening.
“The focus was on the situation surrounding the conflict with Iran and on the ongoing bilateral negotiations, with the participation of US representatives, regarding the settlement of the Ukrainian problem,” Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov told reporters, referring to this Monday telephone conversation between Putin and Trump.
According to Yuri Ushakov, this telephone conversation, which lasted about an hour and was the first between the two leaders since December 2025, was organized at the initiative of Washington to “discuss a number of extremely important issues related to the current development of the international situation.”
“The conversation was serious, sincere and constructive,” Vladimir Putin's diplomatic adviser also said, according to Russian news agencies, but without revealing the exact content of the talks.
According to Ushakov, the Russian president pleaded during this conversation for a “quick political and diplomatic solution to the Iranian conflict”, Tehran being a close ally of Moscow.
Regarding Ukraine, Vladimir Putin would have provided the US president with “a description of the current situation on the front line, where Russian troops are advancing with great success,” Yuri Ushakov said.
Putin also “positively assessed the mediation efforts undertaken” by Donald Trump to try to find a diplomatic solution to the war in Ukraine, after several rounds of negotiations that have so far failed to end hostilities.
