Krasnoyarsk parents are warned about the dangers of children's games on ice

The regional Ministry of Emergency Situations warns about dangerous activities for children on ice, which can lead to tragedy.
So, in 2022, two children fell into a ravine on the Kan River near Starikovo Island; they could not be saved. A tragedy almost occurred this year at the end of February. Near the Quiet Dawns residential complex in Krasnoyarsk, eyewitnesses noticed schoolchildren who went out onto the ice. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
The department reminds that you need to know the rules of behavior on the ice and reinforce them in the child’s mind: “The first and most important rule is do not let children go on the ice alone. But in life anything can happen. Therefore, for the safety of your child, talk to him about the rules of behavior on ice.”
How to behave on ice:
- You should not go out on the ice when it is dark outside or when visibility is poor due to fog or snow.
- Do not let your child test how strong the ice is by kicking it. The ice may be thin, and the child can easily fall through.
- Tell us that ice that is covered with a thick layer of snow is especially dangerous. In such places, water freezes much more slowly.
- Also dangerous are those places on the ice where cracks and holes are visible. If you step on these places with your foot, the ice may immediately crack.
- If for some reason the ice cracks under your feet and a crack appears, under no circumstances should you panic and run headlong away from danger. You need to lie down on the ice and carefully roll to a safe place.
- If the child is still in danger and the ice under him has cracked, explain that you cannot jump onto a separately floating ice floe, because it may turn over and the child will end up under water.
“We kindly ask you to conduct conversations with children of all ages about the dangers of going out on thin ice, especially sinceunder prohibitory signs. Such a tragedy can happen to your child if you do not take any measures,” the Ministry of Emergency Situations reminds.
