“Since Tuesday, Mirel is a coach at FCSB, he only comes for two and a half months to help,” Gigi Becali declared on Sunday evening, announcing the start of Radoi's second term on the red-blue bench.

What did Mirel Rădoi do on his first adventure at FCSB

In the summer of 2015, right after Costel Gâlcă achieved the treble with FCSB, Gigi Becali brought his fine coach to the red-blue team. It was Radoi's first adventure on the technical bench. He had just finished his playing career at Al Arabi and didn't even have a technician's license, the official coach being Massimo Pedrazzini.

In his first term at FCSB, Rădoi lasted until the end of November, when he was replaced by Laurentiu Reghecampf. Which he stung ironically when he announced his departure: “I hope that the coaches who keep pretending to be star players on TV will come to help the team! They were called before, but they asked for 25,000 euros. Let them come for other money and show how star players they are,” said Mirel.

With him on the bench, FCSB played 29 matches, in all competitions. He recorded 12 wins, 8 draws and 9 losses. He had 35 goals scored and 32 goals conceded. When Mirel left FCSB, the team was in 4th place, with 30 points. Astra was the leader, with 40 points, and Viitorul and Pandurii were in 2nd and 3rd place, with 36 points.

Eliminated from the European Cups

FCSB started the year in the UCL preliminaries. She beat Trencic in the second round, with emotions (2-0 away, in the round, and 2-3 at home, in the return). Then it was eliminated by Partizan, 1-1 in the round from Bucharest and 2-4 in the return from Serbia. And the team reached the Europa League preliminaries, in the play-off, where they met Rosenborg. And the Norwegians had no mercy on the red-blues. They won 3-0 in Bucharest and lost on the return leg, 0-1.

Internally, the team had fluctuating developments. He lost the Supercup, 0-1 with ASA Tg. Mureș, and in the championship he alternated good matches with weaker ones.

  • With Astra he lost twice, 0-2 and 0-1, with Dinamo he did 0-0 and 1-3, and with CFR Cluj he had a draw, 1-1, and a 0-2 defeat.
  • A series of three defeats in four matches was decisive for Radoi. On November 1, they lost against CFR Cluj, 0-1, then beat FC Botoșani, 5-3, and then lost against Dinamo, 1-3, and Astra, 0-1.

What came next for Rădoi: U21, the big national team and Craiova University

After leaving FCSB, there was a three-year break for Rădoi, after which he joined the U21 national team. He successfully finished the campaign started by Isăilă, qualifying the national team for EURO 2019, where he reached the semi-finals, practicing spectacular football, which delighted the fans.

Then he took over the national team in November 2019, where he stayed for exactly two years. He lost the play-off with Iceland for EURO 2020, then resigned after the “tricolors” finished Group J in 3rd place and missed the play-off for the World Cup.

In the summer of 2022, Rădoi started his first term at the University of Craiova, where he stayed for 20 matches, until December 2022. And he left with a scandal, having a harsh message to Sorin Cârțu, the then president of Olten.

After unsuccessful experiences at Al Tai, Al Bataeh and Al Jazira, Radoi returned in January 2025 to Craiova. Where it lasts until November. He had 44 games, including 23 wins, and left the team in 4th place with 29 points, 6 behind the leaders Rapid.
