Edi Iordănescu is under immense pressure at Legia Warsaw, as a result of the failures suffered in Conference League, 0-1 with Samsunspor, and in the championship, 1-3 with Gornik in Zabrze.
Polish newspapers have learned that, despite the two consecutive defeats suffered by the Law last week, the club management does not intend to dismiss Edi Iordănescu. Moreover, an evaluation of the Romanian technician and the team situation would be done only in winter.
Goal.pl: “I asked and there is no question to change the coach”
The reputed sports journalist Piotr Koźmiitski, from Goal.pl, made contact with officials from the multiple champion of Poland. “Could the recent defeats take the resignation of Iordănescu? I asked about this on Monday afternoon. We were assured that there is no question of changing the coach,” Kozminski revealed.
The journalist believes that “this is not entirely surprising, because he is aligned with what the sports director Michał żewłakow declared in a recent press conference. He then said that a first assessment of the coach will take place in winter.”
Przeglad Sortowy: “The next few weeks could be crucial”
However, the daily Przeglad Sortowy argues that “although everything indicates that the dismissal of Jordanescu is excluded for the time being, the next few weeks could be crucial for the future of the Romanian coach.” In other words, any wrong step, from now on, could bring his end on the bench.
The former Romanian coach was harshly criticized in the press, after making 10 changes in the start-up team with Samsunspor, held last Thursday, in the Conference League group, to have as many titles at the Sunday derby, with Zabrze, with Gornik. But he lost both parties.
Edi Iordănescu: “I probably didn't deserve the three points”
Iordănescu then went public and justified. “As for us, as I have always said in the past, I take full responsibility for the bad things that have happened. I have been in this situation, I know what to do and what is missing,” said the Romanian technician, quoted by Legia.net.
“If you play well, you have to win to take the championship. After the match with Radomiak, I looked good at Częstochowa, but I didn't win, even though I deserved 100%. I had big opportunities, I hit the bar. The same was against Jagiellonia.
I controlled the matches against the title suitors. I had opportunities, I hit the bars and transverse, but I finished with a single point. I told the boys that if you play well you have to win. On Sunday, however, we played under our standards and we probably did not deserve the three points ”, admitted the Romanian coach.
The legia has 15 points after 10 stages and is in the 7th place in the standings. It's 7 points behind leader Górnik Zabrze. After the international break, Jordanescu's people will face Zagłębie Lubin, in the championship, and Shahtior Donetk, in Conference League.
