On Friday, the Israeli army issued a warning calling for the evacuation of an industrial zone in Iran's Qom province, several kilometers from the uranium enrichment center in Fordo, a key facility of Iran's nuclear program, the New York Times reported.

The daily assesses the warning as an announcement of approaching air strikes.
A message published on the social network called on civilians to “immediately leave” the small area, marked in red on the attached map. “Your presence in this area threatens your lives,” it was written.
It is unclear why Israel would fire on this area, the NYT emphasized.
The Fordo facility itself was the target of an attack in June 2025 during the 12-day war between Iran, Israel and the US. Then, American B-2 bombers dropped heavy penetrating bombs on the facility, trying to destroy the enriched uranium storage facilities hidden underground.
Ostan Qom has not been the target of massive attacks so far in the current conflict, which began on February 28. There have been no confirmed attacks on the Fordo facility or direct attacks on the nuclear facility in Isfahan, south of Tehran, the NYT reported.
Israeli authorities justified the attacks on Iran by the need to respond to the “existential threat” posed by, in their opinion, Iran's nuclear and missile program. US President Donald Trump has stated that one of the goals is to ensure that Tehran does not have nuclear weapons.
The Iranian regime has assured that its nuclear program is for civilian purposes only. However, Israeli authorities estimated that the Fordo facility could enable Tehran to quickly develop a nuclear bomb. (PAP)
