Buildings in the Dubai Marina area were evacuated on Saturday after fragments from intercepted projectiles damaged the facade of a residential skyscraper in the emirate city. Among the evacuees were members of the CNN team.

In a message published on social media, the Dubai Press Office announced that no one was injured in the incident.

“Authorities confirm that debris from a successful interception caused a minor incident on the facade of a tower in Dubai Marina. The situation has been brought under control. No injuries have been reported”reported the Dubai Media Office.

As the sound of interceptions echoed across the city and evacuations began, residents of Dubai and Abu Dhabi received alerts on their mobile phones of possible missiles nearby. The 90-story luxury tower, which is home to wealthy foreigners, international professionals and foreign investors, was partially evacuated and emergency teams rushed to the scene.

People shared videos online showing smoke rising from the building and a fire, but authorities have yet to provide full details on the extent of the damage, according to News18.

The attacks came shortly after the president of the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, made extremely rare public statements describing Iran as an “enemy”.

The UAE is beautiful, it is a role model, but I tell you, don't be fooled by it“, he warned Tehran during a visit to a hospital where civilians injured in the attacks are being treated. “The hand of the Emirates can reach far and is strong and we are not easy prey.”

The attack came after the UAE Ministry of Defense warned of missile and drone attacks launched from Iran amid rising tensions in the Persian Gulf. Loud explosions were heard in different areas of the country, with air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles, drones and stray munitions.

The attack also came after Iran's president, Masoud Pezeshkian, sent a message of apology to neighboring countries, saying Iran would not attack states unless they were used to attack Tehran. But US President Donald Trump branded the apology a capitulation, prompting Iranian forces to warn that they would continue the attacks.

Iran has launched a barrage of missiles and drones at several countries, hitting airports, luxury hotels, residential buildings and energy infrastructure in one of the deadliest regional crises in decades. Explosions were reported in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Azerbaijan.

Emirates airline temporarily suspended flights to and from Dubai on Saturday, and Dubai authorities said a “minor incident” resulting from falling debris after an interception, without specifying where exactly the incident took place.

23 Marina is a residential skyscraper in the Dubai Marina district, one of the most luxurious districts. The tower has 88 floors and at the time of its inauguration it was the tallest residential building in the world.
