Cucumbers are an indispensable crop in any garden. But not all varieties produce a stable harvest, remain crisp after harvest and do not become bitter even with temperature changes. To achieve both quantity and quality, it is important to choose proven varieties that combine yield, disease resistance and true summer flavor.
Here are seven reliable options that are suitable for both open ground and greenhouses.
Herman F1
Self-pollinating hybrid with gherkins 10–12 cm long. The fruits are dense, with small tubercles, without bitterness even in drought. Ideal for whole pickling: it does not form voids and remains crisp in the jar. The yield is high – up to 8–9 kg per bush. Resistant to powdery mildew and cladosporiosis.
Ant F1
Early ripening parthenocarpic hybrid. The fruits are 8–10 cm long, with large tubercles and black spines. They hold their crunch well after a month in brine. You can harvest 35–40 days after germination. Does not require pollination, ideal for greenhouses and balconies.
Zozulya F1
A classic among salad cucumbers. The fruits are cylindrical, up to 20–25 cm long, with thin skin and tender pulp. The taste is sweetish, without bitterness, there are few seeds. Ideal for fresh salads and okroshka. Gives a harvest until frost if harvested regularly.
Courage F1
A universal hybrid with fruits 12–15 cm. It is distinguished by its even shape and dense pulp. Does not turn yellow when overripe, does not crack. Suitable for salads and pickling. The yield is stable even in rainy summers – up to 10 kg per bush.
Emelya F1
An early self-pollinating hybrid with fruits up to 15 cm. Up to 10 kg of yield per square meter. Cucumbers are crispy, aromatic, with thin skin. They are not bitter due to the absence of cucurbitacin. Ideal for family preparations and daily fresh consumption.
Ladoga F1
Bundle hybrid – ovaries are formed 3-5 pieces per node. The fruits are short, dense, with small tubercles. Great for small jars and baby food. Resistant to a range of diseases, including mosaic virus and downy mildew.
Shchedrik
A variety from which you can collect your own seeds. The fruits are 12–16 cm long, dark green, with white stripes at the base. The taste is rich, the flesh is dense. Tolerates cool weather well, suitable for northern regions and open ground.
To prevent cucumbers from becoming bitter, water them regularly with warm water, preferably in the morning or evening. Avoid drying out the soil: sudden changes in humidity provoke the production of cucurbitacin. To prevent diseases, mulch the beds with straw or grass. This will retain moisture and protect the roots from overheating.
