Radu Miruță confirms that he signed an adhesion to PSD when he was a student, in order to go to the sea

USR Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, confirmed on Tuesday evening, March 3, that he signed a document of adhesion to PSD in 2005 and explains the reasons why he made such a decision. The former executive president of the PSD Gorj claims that the form was not subject to the approval procedure.

Published by Gândul, the document represents a declaration of adhesion to the Social Democratic Party (PSD), through which Radu Miruță declares that he has read and agrees with the Statute and Political Program of the party and requests to be accepted as a member of the PSD.

At that time, Radu Miruță was a student of Electronics in Bucharest.

In the document, the minister mentions that he is not a member of other parties or political formations and provides his personal data, including place and date of birth, domicile, profession, workplace, position, identification data and personal number code.

The document is dated January 7, 2005 and bears his signature.

The fact that Miruță was a PSD member was revealed for the first time by Victor Ponta, on the Gândul YouTube channel. “Miruță was a PSD member when I led the party”, said the former prime minister.

Ion Călinoiu: “The membership came to me, from the youth organization”

According to the former executive president of the PSD Gorj, Ion Călinoiu, whose signature appears on an adhesion, the form was not subject to the approval procedure, as stipulated by the party's statute, writes the publication Presă sei ștărăti.

“The membership came to me from the youth organization, I don't know exactly how it came to me. I know there was a summer school with young students and I understood that Miruță was there and I wanted to have him as a party member.

I got the membership, he didn't give it to me in person. In the youth sector, but I don't remember which of the young people brought it to me and I said: I recommend him that I want him in the organization. This does not mean that he was a PSD member.

That's how the discussion was, which I had to submit to the executive office of the municipal organization for validation. But he didn't confirm that he was coming, that he was staying and I didn't put it on. He was not a PSD member, because that membership was not validated, according to the statute, in a meeting of the executive office of the Social Democratic Party”, Călinoiu told.

The former executive president of PSD Gorj and former president of the County Council also stated that the party received many forms, which in the end were not validated, many coming from youth organizations.

Călinoiu harshly criticized the gesture of the PSD Gorj representatives, who searched in over two decades old documents to find a form with which to attack the leader of USR Gorj, who became Minister of Defense, although that form did not automatically make him a member of the party.

“He had nowhere to take out a USR member, another member, other than someone who has access to the party organization's document archive. I, these people, regardless of whether they are my colleagues in the party, I do not agree with such actions. The fact that there was a paper, which did not highlight his party membership, has no relevance.” Călinoiu concluded.

Radu Miruță: “The given respects were available at the faculty dormitory”

On his Facebook page, the Minister of Defense confirms that the data in the document belongs to him. According to him, he signed several documents to go “overboard with the PSD”, but he was not politically affiliated at the time.

“These days are extremely full (sic!) of really important discussions, but out of respect for you, I also answer a question that seems amazing to me.

I see that a publication made public a document from which it would appear that I would have registered in the PSD 21 years ago.

Yes, the data in the document belongs to me. Yes, that data was available at the faculty dormitory. Yes, there we signed several documents when we went to the sea with the PSD, organized by the dormitory administration as the head of the faculty dormitory, none of us having anything to do with politics at that time.” explained Radu Miruță.

The minister says that if PSD used student data to artificially increase its membership, then former leader Victor Ponta should explain how and why it did so.

“What would have been the logic of signing up and not activating anything at all? Neither before nor after going with the gang from Electronics, free and student-friendly, a weekend at the sea?!

When I decided to get involved politically, I completed membership, created branches, teams and became a parliamentarian. I have said many times – doing politics should be something honorable”Radu Miruța transmitted.

The minister states that not only the false information about his membership 21 years ago is problematic, but also the fact that a former party president presents things as if it was a shame to be a PSD member, considering this an embarrassing attack.

“No matter how much dirt you throw at me, don't derail me from the path that I know is right. I can explain what I did 21 years ago, but maybe you start explaining what you did to Romania for decades while you led it.

Romania needs political people who rise to the height of the times we live in, not small people who scratch on the fence hoping that maybe, maybe the door will open for them”the Minister of Defense also specified.
