A new collection of Klopotenko’s recipes for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. What is known and why the project is criticized online

What is known about the project

He noted that the initiator of the project called “Preparing for Battle” was the defense procurement agency of the State Logistics Operator of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

According to the restaurateur, the initiative was born in response to real requests from Ukrainian defenders.

“Because delicious food depends not only on the availability and quality of products. It also depends on the conditions, equipment and experience of the people who cook,” he wrote. “The military themselves often say that in many units there are not enough professional cooks, so without the appropriate knowledge and skills it is difficult to maintain a stable and balanced diet.”

Klopotenko assured that the collection will be adapted to the real conditions of both field and stationary service.

“It will provide simple recipes with calorie counts and easy-to-follow instructions that require no professional training or additional resources,” he added.


Scandal on the network

The restaurateur’s statement was received ambiguously—many memes and criticism of him appeared online.

“I’ll tell you, today’s information infuriated me so much that it simply infuriated me! This clown Klopotenko, who without soap climbs into all the holes of the world with his fried lilacs, will now also compose recipes for our military, as if they couldn’t do without them! Yes, I would take him by the scruff of the neck and show him how you can help the military without the “highest” patronage for that, without making noise to the whole country, but of your own free will and at your own expense,” – Ukrainian writer Maria Matios was also outraged on Facebook.

What the restaurateur says

In response, Klopotenko hastened to assure that he would not create “brilliant original recipes.”

“My role is to help systematize what already exists in the units and transfer our experience to where it is useful,” he wrote. “The reality today is that in many units there is excellent experience and excellent cooks, in others everything is radically different. Therefore, my task is to collect the best practices of military chefs and, together with specialized technologists, systematize and adapt all this to different cooking conditions so that any kitchen can operate stably.”

He added that the collection will not be mandatory for everyone.

“This is just a tool that can be used if necessary,” the restaurateur wrote.

Context

Evgeny Klopotenko in 2015 became the winner of the fifth season of the culinary project “MasterChef” on the STB channel. After winning the show, the TV channel invited the chef as an expert in several television projects.

Klopotenko is the co-founder of the social project Cult Food, the goal of which is to change the food culture.
