“I am at Otopeni airport, where the second assisted repatriation flight from the Middle East landed tonight. The two flights landed safely in Romania with 318 Romanian citizens, pilgrims and tourists, in a charter system, organized by travel agencies alongside the Tarom campaign”, wrote Oana Țoiu on her Facebook page.

According to her, the Romanian citizens arrived in Egypt through the Taba border point, being assisted at the border crossing point and at the airport by the consular team and the Romanian Embassy in Egypt.

“We have established together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Badr Abdel-Aati, that we will continue constant communication at the bilateral level for the assistance of tourist groups as well as for the facilitation of transit for special cases”added Oana Țoiu.

She also stated that the Romanian authorities still recommend prudence on the part of Romanian citizens in the states of the Middle East and following the official channels.

The repatriation operation was coordinated at government level, after an emergency meeting at the Victoria Palace, and the authorities announced that priority was given to children and people in vulnerable situations, including medical cases.

The people, angry at the Romanian state

Scheduled for Monday morning, the special flights were postponed due to delays caused by land transport on the Israel-Egypt route and border formalities.

Approximately 14,000 Romanian citizens are currently in the United Arab Emirates, in the context of the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, on Monday, during a press briefing.

“The authorities' estimate is that keeping the current place where the Romanian citizens are today and tomorrow is the recommended option”said Oana Ţoiu.

Meanwhile, the Romanians who arrived in the country told the journalists present at the airport that the Romanian authorities did not help them in any way and that they had to pay for their repatriation flight themselves, according to Antena 3.
