Iranian diplomacy on Monday accused the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, of not reacting after Saturday's attack at the school in Minab, in which 180 people died, according to the Iranian authorities, and said that the official's “silence” “in the face of this atrocity is deeply alarming”, AFP and EFE reported.

The latest toll provided by the Iranian authorities shows that 100 people died in the bombing of the girls' school in Minab. Neither the United States nor Israel have confirmed the attack. Iranian authorities say a hospital in Tehran was also hit.

Iran's ambassador to the United Nations, Ali Bahreini, wrote to Volker Turk and urged him to condemn the Minab school attack “in the strongest terms” and “demand accountability”.

“The silence of the Office of the High Commissioner (of the UN for Human Rights) in the face of this atrocity is deeply alarming,” said Bahreini, quoted by Agerpres.

He described the bombing as “one of the most tragic and horrible scenes of this war”.

“None of these girls were less innocent than Mahsa Amini, therefore they deserve more attention from the international community,” the ambassador added, referring to the young Iranian who died in the custody of the morality police in 2022.

Iran's president: “The world must condemn these acts”

President Massoud Pezeshkian spoke about the two attacks and said that “Iran will not remain silent and will not give in to these crimes.”

“Attacks on hospitals are attacks on life itself. Attacks on schools target the future of a nation (…) The world must condemn these acts,” the Iranian president wrote in a post on the X platform.
