What happened to Ayatollah Khamenei?

“In response to missile fire towards northern Israel, the IDF is attacking Hezbollah targets throughout Lebanon. Hezbollah is acting on behalf of the Iranian regime, opening fire on Israeli civilians and wreaking havoc in Lebanon. IDF troops have prepared for such a scenario as part of Operation Roaring Lion and are prepared to act on all fronts,” the IDF said on the night from Sunday to Monday.

In another statement, the Israeli army announced that Eyal Zamir, Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, “in the last hour assessed the situation together with members of the General Staff in connection with the shelling from Lebanese territory. The Chief of the General Staff approved the offensive plan for the future and ordered the preparation of a strong defense and the continuation of offensive operations.”

In the statement, the Israeli army also conveyed the commander's words. “Hezbollah launched a campaign against Israel tonight and it is responsible for the escalation of the conflict. As part of the combat procedure before the start of Operation Roaring Lion, we prepared for a multi-front scenario and an offensive campaign against Hezbollah. Any enemy who threatens our security will pay a high price – we will not allow attacks on the inhabitants of Israel and the northern border,” we read.

The Israeli army previously said it intercepted one rocket coming from Lebanon and allowed several others to land in uninhabited areas. There were no reports of injuries or damage as a result of this shelling.

Israeli forces confirmed that Tehran-backed Hezbollah was behind the shelling. The organization announced that it attacked Israel in retaliation for the death of Iran's supreme leader.

Israel and the United States launched attacks on Iran on Saturday, saying they would continue in the coming days. As a result of these actions, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed. Tehran responded by firing missiles and drones at Israel and other Middle Eastern countries, including US bases in the region.
