Iran accuses US, Israel of 'terrorism' and calls on UN to take action after killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi formally addressed the UN on Monday to inform about “profound and long-term consequences for those responsible” in response to the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the attacks launched by the United States and Israel.

“This behavior not only violates the established principles of international law, but will recklessly cause unpredictable and dangerous problems and undermine the foundations of the sovereign equality of states and the stability of the international system”the head of Iranian diplomacy wrote on his Telegram account, according to Agerpres.
Abbas Araqchi directly accused “The United States and the Israeli Regime” that they attacked “deliberately the highest official of an independent member state of the United Nations” and assured that “this attack has profound and far-reaching consequences for which the perpetrators are fully responsible”.
He emphasized that the attack against Iran “constitutes a direct violation of the most fundamental principles of international law”citing the UN Charter, which, according to the minister, “does not in any way deny the inherent and inalienable right of the Islamic Republic of Iran to defend its sovereignty”.
The Iranian foreign minister made an appeal “formally and firmly to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Security Council to fulfill their responsibilities under the (UN) Charter for the maintenance of international peace and security and to adopt immediate, specific and effective measures to ensure full accountability of the United States and the Israeli regime for the heinous terrorist act”.
