Last year, more than 400 arrangements were made regarding the transport of wind turbine components towards the border crossing in Korczowa. Rzeszów branch of GDDKiA. The transports were mainly headed to the Volyn and Lviv oblasts, where the reconstruction of the energy infrastructure is underway.

According to Bartosz Wysocki from the Rzeszów branch of GDDKiA, issued last year over 400 arrangements resulted in nearly 1,700 non-standard journeyscontaining wind turbine components that came to Ukraine. In his opinion, the scale of the issued arrangements made the Podkarpackie routes a key logistics corridor for oversized loads supporting the eastern neighbor.

He added that the increased traffic towards Ukraine is part of a broader phenomenon – an increase in the number of non-standard transports in the region, which has been going on for several years.

Logistics “energy bridge”. The scale of oversized transports

According to Wysocki, in 2025 alone, the Rzeszów branch of GDDKiA issued 773 permits for companies to travel by vehicles exceeding standard parameters. For comparison, in 2019, 342 such decisions were issued, in 2021 their number increased to 688, and in the record year 2024 – 780.

Wysocki emphasized that although the number of permits issued last year was lower than in the previous year, the number of route arrangements – 785 cases – proves the unwavering dynamics of heavy transport in the region.

A representative of the Rzeszów GDDKiA pointed out that an abnormal crossing is always considered when the vehicle exceeds the permissible parameters specified in the regulations, i.e. 16.5 meters in length for a tractor with a semi-trailer, 2.5 meters in width, 4 meters in height or 40 tons of total weight.

When determining routes for such large trains, the technical condition of roads and bridges and ensuring full traffic safety are crucial. To facilitate the passage of the largest transports, the road manager uses special engineering solutions, such as roundabouts with passable middle islands, which already operate on the DK28, DK77 and DK94 routes, Wysocki said.

Strict travel rules. Night operations and bridge protection

The permit for non-standard transport usually includes the condition of travel at: 22-6 due to less traffic at night. In special cases – e.g. very tall sets – it is possible to set a date during the day, when there is light, which allows for a precise passage.

Sets with a mass exceeding the norms must cross bridges and viaducts at a constant speed of up to 10 km/h, without sudden braking, and in the center of the road, with the traffic of other vehicles completely stopped. Such strict rules are intended to protect road structures.

According to GDDKiA data, a total of 16,000 were issued last year. permits for non-standard travel. For comparison, in 2024 the number of such allowances amounted to over 15.1 thousand. (PAP)
