The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raised the terrorist alert level in the United States on Saturday, following the launch of the joint American-Israeli attack against Iran, sources within the agency informed CNN and Fox News.

The Secretary for Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, explained on X that she is in “direct coordination” with intelligence agencies and law enforcement to “closely monitor and thwart any potential threat against the homeland”, quotes Agerpres.

The Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting the US president and other political leaders, also announced “additional security” at locations under its watch.

Local police departments across the country, including New York, activated precautionary protocols and increased patrols at places of worship and diplomatic headquarters.

The United States and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on Saturday, which responded by firing missiles into Israeli territory and against US military bases in the region.

US President Donald Trump, whose government was negotiating a nuclear deal with Tehran, announced the operation at dawn on Saturday from his private residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, saying his ultimate goal was to topple the Iranian regime.
