The US has given billions of equipment to Israel. “No effective control”

The U.S. Department of Defense failed to keep proper records of much of the $13.4 billion. military aid provided to Israel after the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, according to a report by the Pentagon's inspector general published last week. American officials admit that they only have documentation regarding 44 percent. sent military equipment. They were unable to track, among other things, 42 transports with over four million rounds of ammunition, transferred at the turn of 2023 and 2024. Most of the equipment was used in Israel's military activities before it was even entered into the documentation. The oversight gaps were said to be due to limited staff and operational changes in Israel.

What was the value of the military aid provided to Israel by the US?

What percentage of military equipment was recorded correctly?

What oversight gaps did the Pentagon report identify?

What types of military equipment require increased EEUM surveillance?

There was no supervision over the transferred equipment. This may pose a threat

The published version of the report is partially classified and does not contain detailed information on the types of military equipment covered by the inspection. However, the study concerns the supply of weapons classified by the Americans as EEUM (Enhanced End-Use Monitoring), i.e. equipment that, according to the regulations, must be subject to increased supervision. Such weapons include, for example, cruise and ballistic missiles, advanced unmanned aerial systems and anti-aircraft defense systems.

“Without effective controls, EEUM military equipment could be seized by adversaries in the region,” says the Pentagon inspector general. He also draws attention to the risk this could pose to the United States. “Adversaries who obtain equipment covered by EEUM will gain direct access to and knowledge of sensitive U.S. military technologies,” the study adds. As a result, the technological advantage of the US and its allies would be weakened.
