Iohannis paid double for a flight to the same destination

The former president of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, was in the US capital, between May 6 and 10, 2024, to participate in the awarding ceremony of the Atlantic Council Distinguished Leadership Awards.

The president a used a military plane for all travel

So far, President Nicușor Dan has traveled, in almost all foreign trips, with the Spartan military plane, whether he went to Chisinau or Helsinki.

He recently complained, after being stranded at the Paris airport due to weather, about the conditions on board the military aircraft.

Also in January, Nicușor Dan was asked by journalists what he would do in case of longer trips.

“On a case-by-case basis. You know we were going to go to Colombia. Then we were going to charter a plane, because this one (ed. – Spartan) can't go there. If it's a commercial location, like Washington or New York, then it's simple. If not, case by case,” he answered then.

Nicușor Dan said that “at some point we must have (an official plane owned by the Romanian state). And not only for the president, but also for the ministers who go on delegations when there are important things”. He emphasized, however, that Romania cannot now afford the purchase of a presidential plane.
