Martinian day
Saint Martinian, whose memory is celebrated on this day, is a Christian saint who lived in Palestine in the 4th and 5th centuries. According to legend, he was a hermit and began his reclusive life at the age of 18. Martinian began to be considered a tamer of passions. In Rus' they prayed to him to strengthen the family and get rid of temptations.
There were several weather signs for this day. They said, for example, that if the snow melts on Martinian, then a friendly spring will come, and if the day is cloudy, spring will be cold and long.
This day was also called bright. It was customary to go out into the courtyard at night and call out to the stars, so that their shine would bring vigilance to the eyes.
