Autumn is the time when apple trees are preparing for winter rest, and pathogens, on the contrary, are actively looking for a place to winter. And scab, this insidious fungus that can ruin up to 90% of the harvest, is now more vulnerable than ever. There is a method that allows you to solve the problem for the entire next season literally in one evening.
The secret lies in simple but effective autumn spraying. While the trees have not gone into deep dormancy, but have already shed their leaves, their protective systems are still working. A properly selected composition not only destroys overwintering fungal spores, but also creates a protective barrier on the bark.
Preparation of the solution:
500 grams of urea are dissolved in 10 liters of warm water. Add 50 grams of copper sulfate, previously diluted in a separate container. Stir thoroughly until the crystals are completely dissolved. For better adhesion, you can add 2 tablespoons of liquid soap.
Processing technology:
Choose a dry, windless day at the end of October. Carefully spray not only the trunk and skeletal branches, but also the ground in the circle around the trunk. Particular attention is paid to cracks in the bark: this is where the bulk of the spores overwinter. Consumption: 2-3 liters per adult tree.
Urea burns out fungal spores, and copper disinfects the bark. Treatment during the period when the tree is practically dormant, but the fungus is still active, gives the maximum effect. In the spring, the scab simply won’t have a chance; it will have nowhere to reproduce.
