Dinamo lost in Hungary, score 28-35, in the 12th group stage of the Champions League in handball. The match was practically pointless for the Romanian champion, already eliminated before this round.
“Dulaii” occupied the 8th place, last, with only two points, and in the previous stage they also lost to Füchse Berlin, 21-27, a game in which Branko Vujovic scored 5 times from 9 shots.
Promising start for “Dulas”
Dinamo started excellently at Veszprem. Vujovic opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, then scored again for 0-2 and 0-3 to put his side three goals ahead. The reply of the Hungarians came quickly. After the tie at 3-3, Veszprem took the lead for the first time in the 7th minute (5-4), taking advantage of the mistakes in the Bucharest defense. Dedu and Akimenko kept Dinamo close, but the hosts started to break away.
In the 18th minute, Akimenko reduced the score to 12-8, but the home team's efficiency was impressive: after a quarter of an hour, they had 9 goals from 10 shots, and goalkeeper Appelgren closed the gate in the key moments. At halftime, the difference was already substantial.
Problems in the second half as well
In the second half, Dinamo tried to come back. Vujovic scored superbly in the corner (22-16), Nistor converted from 7 meters, and Akimenko scored unstoppable in the 46th minute (28-22).
A delicate moment happened in the 40th minute, when Daniel Stanciuc scored, but got injured and was lying on the floor, while Veszprem continued the phase and scored for 25-19.
The final belonged to the hosts. Rosta scored for 34-26, Pelayo scored from 7 meters, and Roșca set the final score in the 59th minute: 28-35.
Dinamo, eliminated from the Handball Champions League
Coach Paulo Pereira could not use goalkeeper Ionuț Iancu, injured in the left arm in the championship match with CSM Constanța, won by Dinamo with 33-22. For Dinamo, there are two more matches without stakes, at home with Kolstad (March 5) and away with Sporting (March 12).
