On Thursday, Warsaw councilors supported the introduction of a ban on night sales of alcohol in two districts: Śródmieście and Praga-Północ. The ban will apply from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and applies to shops and gas stations.

The night prohibition will come into force 14 days after publication in the official journal of the Masovian Voivodeship, most likely on November 1.
55 councilors were in favor of introducing night prohibition in Śródmieście, while one was against. As for Praga-Północ, 55 councilors were in favor of introducing the ban, while two councilors were against.
The mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, the originator of the project, was supposed to be present at the session, but he did not manage to return from Brussels.
The justification for the draft resolutions indicated that the report on the consultations included voices of residents to first introduce restrictions in Śródmieście and Praga-Północ, and then successively in the entire city.
It was also noted that many other cities first introduced restrictions in selected districts or housing estates. This was done, for example, by Poznań, Katowice, Wrocław, Kraków and Gdańsk. Some of these cities decided to later extend the restricted zone to other districts or to the entire city. (PAP)
