Marius Ștefănescu, reported to FIFA by Konyaspor

The Romanian footballer Marius Ștefănescu unilaterally terminated his contract with the Turkish group Konyaspor, citing the fact that he was not included in the preparation process and in the squad for matches.

The management of the Konyaspor club claims that the termination is unjustified. The case will be forwarded to FIFA,” Turkish journalist Halil Yilmazer said on X.

Ștefănescu would have one more problem. He played for two teams this season, for FCSB and Konya, and according to the regulations he could not play for a third club. However, he could get a dispensation for breaking his contract with the Turks for just cause.

Ștefănescu did not play at all in 2026 at Konyaspor

Marius Ștefănescu hadn't played for Konyaspor since December 23, when he played 5 minutes with Antalyaspor, in the Turkish Cup. This year he did not play at all, so he decided to break his contract with the Turks.

He played only 8 games in the Super Lig and failed to score or assist. He also made 3 appearances in the Cup, where he scored a goal.

For FCSB, Ștefănescu played 5 matches this season: 3 in the Champions League preliminaries, one in League 1, plus the Supercup with CFR Cluj

Throughout his career, Ștefănescu was also at Viitorul Cluj and Sepsi. He was transferred to FCSB in 2024, for 1.3 million euros. Only a year later, he was sold in exchange for 300,000 euros to Turkey. Arriving as a favorite of Gigi Becali at the Romanian champion, he was pushed out the back door by the boss of the Bucharest team.

Before being sold to Konyaspor, Ștefănescu was also wanted by Dinamo, in the Superliga. But he chose Turkey.
