Argentina's football clubs have agreed to go on strike, which will take place between March 5 and 8. It is a protest against what the clubs consider a judicial persecution of the president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio Tapia (58).

The decision to suspend the competitions was made after a judge summoned Tapia for hearings in relation to allegations of embezzlement of social security contributions. The investigation was initiated by the Governmental Authority for Revenue and Customs Control (ARCA).

The Executive Committee of the Professional League unanimously decided to suspend all matches in the first league, according to sport.aktuality.sk.

Last Friday, the judge issued a travel ban on Tapia but allowed him to travel to Colombia and Brazil (Feb. 23-28) to attend official business.

Tapia was invited by the Colombian Football Federation and is expected to attend a meeting of the board of the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, where Tapia serves as second vice president.

The judge also summoned four other AFA officials to appear for hearings in early March as part of the investigation into the failure to pay social security contributions totaling 19 billion pesos ($13 million) in 2024 and 2025. AFA has denied the debt.
