Details of the brutal crime were recalled by prosecutor Mario Mannweiler. “The body of a young woman who went to visit the fortress that day was found shortly after the crime in the so-called General von Aster's room. It was done by children while entering the fortress. The victim was mostly undressed and showed signs of serious head injuries, several stab wounds to the upper body and traces of strangulation,” the investigator reported.

For years, the investigation was fruitless. There are many indications that the turnaround occurred in 2025, when photos of items that were missing from Amy Lopez's body were published. They were: brown-rimmed glasses, a white purse with traveler's checks and dollars, a silver Timex digital watch with a damaged strap, a silver bracelet and white and pink Nike sports shoes.
As the police indicated at the time, the items could still be with the killer. Subsequent analysis of the evidence revealed traces of male DNA on the recovered items.

On Monday, February 23, the services arrested an 81-year-old man in an apartment in Koblenz. The man was charged with the murder of Amy Lopez and was brought before the district court. He was temporarily arrested.
Investigators do not reveal what exactly led them to the trail of the murderer. They plan to present more information on the matter at a press conference scheduled for Wednesday.
