Scattered parcels with recipients' data near Białystok. Some were burnt


According to Polish Radio Białystok, most of the correspondence found were parcels from banks, ZUS, and the Military Pension Office in Białystok. They were supposed to be delivered to the residents of the Nowe Miasto estate in Białystok, several kilometers away from the place where the scattered correspondence was found.

Some of the envelopes were burnt, others were wet and dirty. Despite this, it was easy to read the exact details of the recipients. Some envelopes were even open. The correspondence also included completed PIT forms with the settlement for the previous year. These documents also contained sensitive data such as names, addresses, PESEL numbers and the amount of remuneration that the given persons received in 2025.. As Polish Radio Białystok adds, the recipients also included military personnel.

Polish Radio Białystok contacted Poczta Polska regarding this matter. Her spokeswoman Joanna Trzaska-Wieczorek apologized for the situation. She also reported that the letters had been collected and the employee responsible had already been dismissed from work. Moreover, the case was reported to the police.

“However, legal consequences may be incurred not only by the person directly at fault, but also by the institutions that disclosed personal data, and here fines may amount to millions,” said Piotr Czubaty, a personal data protection specialist, in an interview with Polskie Radio Białystok.
