Diplomas were awarded to future miners at the Krasnoyarsk Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals of Siberian Federal University

In Krasnoyarsk, graduates of the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals of Siberian Federal University received diplomas in the specialty “Mining Engineering” in a solemn ceremony. The institute explained that they study for 5.5 years, so graduation traditionally takes place in February.
The event was attended by Elena Kharlamova, Deputy Director of the Krasnoyarsk Representative Office of Norilsk Nickel. She presented diplomas to graduates who had already chosen a mining and metallurgical company for future employment. One of them is Danila Yakovlev, who graduated from a university with a degree in open-pit mining.
“I am planning employment and career advancement at Norilsk Nickel. I will work as a mining foreman at the Mokulaevsky quarry. This is a limestone quarry (is being developed for the extraction of limestone necessary for neutralizing sulfuric acid as part of Norilsk Nickel’s “Sulfur Program” – approx.), but all the same processes are involved there as in ore mining, so it is no less interesting. I chose the company for stability, for quality, and besides, I’m not afraid of the cold, since I grew up where −50 is an acceptable temperature,” the graduate shared.
Daniil Kochnev received a diploma in mining machinery and equipment. Since 2022, the young man has been in practice three times at the Komsomolsky mine as a mechanic, and after graduation he has already signed a contract and is preparing to start working as a mechanic. When choosing a profession, Daniil followed in the footsteps of his father, who also worked at Norilsk Nickel.
The mining and metallurgical company and the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals have a long-term cooperation. The university trains not only miners, but also other specialists in demand at Norilsk Nickel—concentrators, metallurgists, surveyors, and geologists.

“Long-term cooperation between the company and the institute is of great importance for both parties. It is valuable to us that when students leave an educational institution, they already understand where and with whom they will work, and get the opportunity for professional development with the prospect of career growth,” noted Olga Kovtun, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs at the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals of Siberian Federal University.
The company provides opportunities to build a career, starting from student days. Students get acquainted with production thanks to the “Professional Start” program. Students undergo industrial and pre-graduation internships under special conditions: a fixed-term employment contract is concluded with them, they are paid a salary, and are provided with housing.
The partnership between MMC and the Institute is also aimed at preserving and developing competencies, joint research activities, developing unique educational programs, as well as creating infrastructure and creating comfortable conditions for students. Let us remind you that in January the opening of the main building of the IMC, updated with the support of the company, took place. Norilsk Nickel financed the interior design and equipment of the hall, welcome area, security post and classrooms – more than 1,570 square meters in total. m of premises.
