Only 3 out of 10 Romanians believe that the war in the neighboring country will end in 2026 through a peace agreement, and almost a third are of the opinion that in the next 3 years Russia will start a new war in Europe, according to a survey carried out by INSCOP, published on Tuesday, when four years of war in Ukraine are completed.

  • The survey carried out by INSCOP Research, at the request of the New Strategy Center, was carried out between January 28 and February 6, 2026. The data were collected by the CATI method (telephone interviews), the sample size being 1100 people. Eroarea maximă admisă a datelor este de ± 3%, la un grad de încredere de 95%.

Asked to what extent they think that the war in Ukraine will end in 2026 through a peace agreement, 8.9% of Romanians say that to a very large extent, 21.5% to a fairly large extent, 24.5% to a fairly small extent, and 38.5% to a very small extent or not at all. 6.7% do not know or do not answer.

Who are the most optimistic and pessimistic?

I believe to a greater extent than the average population that the war in Ukraine will end in 2026 with a peace agreement especially: AUR voters, young people under 30, those with primary education, small urban dwellers, public sector employees.

USR voters, people with higher education, Bucharest residents and private sector employees are the least likely to believe that the war in Ukraine will end in 2026 through a peace agreement.

Also, 30.1% of respondents believe that in the next 3 years Russia will start a new war in Europe, while 58.8% are of the opposite opinion.

They believe that Russia will start a new war in Europe in the next 3 years to a greater extent than the average population: PSD voters, people between 30 and 44 years old, those with primary education and rural residents. I am of the opposite opinion, especially PNL voters, men, young people under 30, those with higher education, residents of Bucharest and large urban areas, public sector employees.
