A “massive” Ukrainian missile attack has caused severe damage to energy infrastructure and disrupted electricity, heat and water supplies in Russia's Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, the region's governor said on Monday morning, according to Reuters.
“As a result, the energy infrastructure suffered serious damage,” Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram.
“There are interruptions in the supply of electricity, water and heat to homes,” he added.
Gladkov described the attack as “massive”, affecting both the city of Belgorod, located 40 km from the border, and the surrounding area. He said the extent of the damage would be assessed first thing in the morning.

Having successfully destroyed the electrical and heating networks in Russia's Belgorod, Ukrainian forces are now focusing on Bryansk.

Belgorod has been frequently attacked by Ukrainian forces in the conflict, which turns four this week.
