In Małopolska, the number of people over 100 years of age who receive an honorary benefit from the Social Insurance Institution is growing. Currently, there are 418 centenarians in the region – an increase of almost 17%. more than in November 2024 – according to ZUS data.


That's also 57 percent. more than in May 2019, when 180 centenarians in Małopolska received benefits from ZUS.
Over 85 percent beneficiaries in the region are women – 356 of them. There are 62 men. The oldest resident of Małopolska receiving the honorary benefit is a 106-year-old man, born in May 1919.
From March 1, 2025, the amount of the honorary benefit is PLN 6,589.67 per month and is subject to annual indexation.
The largest number of centenarians receiving an honorary benefit in Małopolska is served by the ZUS branch in Kraków – 231 people (192 women and 39 men). In Chrzanów, 66 people (61 women and 5 men) receive the benefit, in the Nowy Sącz region 70 (58 women and 12 men), and in the Tarnów region 51 (45 women and 6 men).
As informed by the regional press secretary of ZUS in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Anna Szaniawska, the honorary benefit is available to people who are over 100 years old, have Polish citizenship and are entitled to a retirement or disability pension. In such a case, it is granted ex officio, without the need to submit an application.
The decision on granting the benefit is issued by the competent pension or disability pension authority, including: ZUS, KRUS, the military pension authority, the Pension and Disability Insurance Institution of the Ministry of Interior and Administration and the Pension Office of the Prison Service. If the pension is paid by two different bodies, the honorary benefit is granted and paid by ZUS.
The benefit may also be granted upon request. This applies to people who are not entitled to a pension or disability pension, but have Polish citizenship, are over 100 years of age and have lived in Poland for at least 10 years after the age of 16. In such a case, the benefit is due from the month of submitting the application. (PAP)
