The radio station reminded that the evacuation has been ongoing since mid-February, among others. tourists from Russia. Radio Marti also noted the appeals of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs calling on the country's citizens to avoid traveling to Cuba, which is in the grip of an energy crisis. According to the findings of the independent website CiberCuba, tourists who were supposed to spend their holidays in closed facilities are being directed to other hotels.

Cuba is facing an energy crisis

The main reason for closing hotels in Cuba is the deepening energy crisis, in particular fuel shortages, and therefore increasing food shortages.

Almost completely dependent on fuel imports, Cuba found itself in a difficult situation after January 3, when American soldiers captured Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro. The regime he led was Cuba's largest supplier of oil. Shortly thereafter, the US authorities forced Caracas to stop transporting crude oil to the island and threatened to impose additional duties on imports from countries that supply Cuba with oil. In response, the Mexican authorities also suspended supplies of raw materials to the island.
