US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he would impose a new 10 percent global tariff and vowed to use other alternatives in the face of the Supreme Court invalidating most of the existing tariffs. The President assessed that the Court had in fact only strengthened his authority to impose tariffs.

– Today I will sign an order imposing a 10% global tariff under Section 122 (of the Trade Act), above our standard tariffs that are already in force. We are also opening several Section 301 and other investigations to protect our country from unfair trade practices of other countries and companies, Trump announced.
The provision mentioned by Trump allows for the imposition of tariffs of up to 15%. for a period of up to 150 days.
The president claimed that the Court's ruling – against the will of the judges – in practice gives him even greater powers in trade policy, confirming, among others, the right to impose an embargo on its own.
– In other words, I can destroy the trade. I can destroy countries. I even have the right to impose embargoes that destroy countries. “I can do whatever I want, but I can't charge $1,” Trump concluded. (PAP)
The judges disappointed me
– They are very unpatriotic and disloyal to our Constitution. “In my opinion, the Supreme Court has been influenced by foreign interests and a political movement that is much smaller than people might realize,” Trump said.
– Foreign countries that had deceived us for years were delighted. They're so happy and they're dancing in the streets, but they won't be dancing for very long,” Trump added.
“The Supreme Court's ruling on tariffs is deeply disappointing and I am ashamed of some members of the court, I am absolutely ashamed that they did not have the courage to do what was right for our country,” Trump said. He said that although he expected the liberal judges to vote – which he called “a disgrace to the nation” – against tariffs, he was deeply disappointed by the attitude of the three conservatives who joined them.
