After baking meats, vegetables or pies, the baking sheet often ends up with stuck-on fat, dried-out sauce or burnt crumbs. It seems that the only way to wash it is with a metal sponge and force. But there is an easier way.
You will need baking soda, vinegar and hot water.
How to do:
- Pour hot water into a sink or deep basin.
- Add 3-4 tablespoons of baking soda and 1/2 cup of white vinegar.
- Dip the baking sheet into the solution so that the dirty areas are covered with liquid.
- Leave for 15–20 minutes. During this time, the fat will soften and the carbon deposits will begin to flake off.
- Simply wipe the surface with a soft sponge and no scraper is needed.
- If necessary, repeat the procedure for particularly stubborn stains.
This method is safe for non-stick and enamel coatings, does not leave scratches and is suitable even for old baking sheets. And most importantly, it does without aggressive chemicals and saves your time.
Question and answer:
Why is the baking tray so difficult to clean after baking?
Fat and proteins polymerize at high temperatures, forming a durable film. Ordinary water cannot cope, but an alkaline medium (soda) in combination with an acid (vinegar) destroys this structure.
Can I use vinegar and baking soda on a non-stick baking sheet?
Yes, this method is safe for non-stick coatings as long as you do not use abrasive pads. Baking soda and vinegar work through a chemical reaction rather than mechanical friction.
