When did the incident with Russian planes take place?
Has there been a violation of US airspace?
What action does NORAD take in such cases?
In response, the American side sent its own planes: two F-16 and F-35 fighters, an E-3 AWACS plane and four KC-135 air refueling planes.
Another incident involving Russian planes
According to NORAD, there was no violation of American airspace, and the Russian aircraft were intercepted and escorted over international waters until they left the identification zone.
Similar activities of Russian aviation are regularly observed both near Alaska and in the Baltic Sea and near Norway. Russian planes often appear without transponders turned on and without reported flight plans, which poses a risk to civilian traffic and thus forces the response of the air forces of countries neighboring Russia (over the Baltic Sea, often as part of the Baltic Air Policing mission).
