According to Geraskevich, his girlfriend was supposed to attend the final races at the Olympics in Milan.
“We bought tickets for the final races, rented accommodation, spent a lot of money. We were supposed to experience the final races of the Olympic Games together, finish them, I really hoped with a medal, and spend time together and return to Ukraine together,” he said.
Geraskevich added that he has been in a relationship with his beloved for quite a long time, and also noted that his chosen one is not associated with sports.
He refused to talk in more detail about his chosen one, but added that Anna supported his decision not to go to the start line without a “memory helmet.”
“I don’t really want to tell you, but I have a girlfriend, my heart is busy, just don’t unsubscribe,” he joked.
Context
On February 9, Geraskevich reported that plans to perform wearing a helmet with photos of the dead Russians and Ukrainian athletes at the 2026 Olympics in Italy. The IOC did not allow he must wear this helmet during official training and at Olympic competitions. The Ukrainian noted that the day before the Italian athlete competed in a helmet with a Russian flag on it, and “there was no reaction.” Instead of a “memory helmet,” the IOC allowed Geraskevich to wear wearing a black mourning armband during the competition, calling it a compromise.
February 12, before the first races, Geraskevich was disqualified because his helmet allegedly did not comply with the rules. The athlete filed an appeal with CAS demanding that he be allowed to perform at the 2026 Olympics, but on February 13, the Sports Arbitration the court rejected it.
On the same day, Geraskevich met in Munich with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. Head of State presented the Ukrainian skeletonist with the Order of Freedom.
