At the end of the public meeting in Washington, Trump spent some time talking with several guests who came to greet him. Among them was the president of Romania.
The first meeting of the Board of Peace on the Gaza issue had the appearance of a corporate meeting, just as one of the organizers from the Trump team pointed out. The president spoke longer, then the members of his team, very briefly and to the point.
Then came the invitations, with an extremely brief speech. Nicusor Dan used the two minutes and spoke, like the others, without a script in front of him. Dan explained what Romania is already doing as a country that has traditionally good relations with both Israel and the Palestinians. He mentioned the Palestinian children treated with us and our expertise in the emergency system, police and other public services we can help establish in Gaza.
Then, after the end of the meeting, Trump spent several minutes at the disposal of his guests. At one point, just before the leader from Washington left the stage, Nicușor Dan slipped in from the right, next to Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of the American president.
Trump shook Dan's hand and said something. Nothing was heard in the background music. Trump's lips read something approving, like “Good job.” Nicusor Dan wanted to go ahead and make the discussion a little longer. But a man wearing a headset, who was securing the space around the US president, discreetly put his hand on Dan, enough for the Romanian president to return to his position. The same man did the same to other heads of state or government who sat too long or too close to Trump.
