The Minister and Secretary of State presented the Solidarity award in Miami. Lech Wałęsa awarded to the Cuban oppositionist, Bercie Soler Fernandez.
– Today we have the opportunity to help others. In 2014, we created the Solidarity award Lech Wałęsa, a prize of PLN 1 million, or about PLN 300,000 dollars. This is an award for extraordinary achievements for the defense of democracy, human rights and freedom – said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. – Today I have a great honor to give this award to an extraordinary person, whose courage, resistance and sacrifice made him a symbol of freedom in Cuba and abroad. This is Berta Soler Fernandez – the Polish deputy prime minister pointed out.
– There are significant parallel between the fight of today's winner and Lech Wałęsa. Berta Soler could not come to receive today's award, just like Lech Wałęsa to the Nobel Prize. For the same reason – it was not certain that they would come home – pointed out Radosław Sikorski. Berta Soler, like Lech Wałęsa, acted in a peaceful, systematic and determined way – he added.
