PKP Intercity is planning changes to tickets. Passengers will validate them themselves

According to the information provided by the Rynek Kolejowy website, PKP Intercity wants to make a number of changes this year to make life easier for passengers. One of the key new options is to be “self check-in”, i.e. checking in on your own, without having to show your ticket to the conductor.
Passengers would be able to validate their tickets themselves. Check-in would be done using a mobile application, just like when traveling by plane. “This information will be transferred automatically to the conductor terminal, and the conductor will no longer check the passenger's ticket,” says Joanna Sicińska, member of the PKP Intercity management board.

As we read, tests of the new function have already been planned and are to be carried out on Pendolino trains. For now, it remains unclear in how many teams they will be delivered. According to Anna Zakrzewska from the PKP Intercity press office, “the company will inform about the formula for implementing this facility at a later time.”

Another convenience that the company plans to introduce is the ability to graphically select a seat when purchasing a transfer ticket. Until now, this option was only available when choosing a ticket for direct journeys. Work on the implementation of this solution is to start this year and is scheduled to end at the turn of 2026/2027.

Yet another significant convenience will be equipping all wagons with Internet access. In addition, the company wants to introduce travel notifications in the mobile application. This involves providing information about a change in the starting or ending station or a change in the departure time.
