MegaFon has deployed a fourth generation network (4G/LTE) in the rural areas of Abansky, Achinsky, Bogotolsky, Yeniseisky, Mansko-Uyarsky, Kazachinsko-Pirovsky, Kuraginsky, Nazarovsky, Rybinsky, Bolshemurtinsky-Sukhobuzimsky and Dzerzhinsky-Taseevsky municipal districts.
Thanks to this, more than 3 thousand residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory for the first time gained access to fast mobile Internet and high-quality voice communications.
Expanding the coverage of MegaFon's LTE network became possible thanks to participation in the federal project “Eliminating the Digital Divide 2.0”, implemented with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The program included small and hard-to-reach settlements, where from 100 to 500 people live.
One of these places is the village of Splavnoy, located six hours by car from Krasnoyarsk. The nearest large center – the village of Tyukhtet – is 54 km away. There are only seven streets in the village, and the social infrastructure is formed by a school, a first aid station and a fire station. Most residents are engaged in farming and gardening.
Now MegaFon subscribers in Splavny and in 17 other settlements have new opportunities for education, work and leisure. The network capacity allows owners of “green” SIM cards to transfer a large amount of data at comfortable speeds. Using gadgets, villagers can make video calls to family and friends at a convenient time, receive government services, pay bills and make purchases online, watch movies in high definition, communicate in instant messengers and social networks.
It has become easier for teachers and educators to prepare for classes and work with digital platforms, and for students to use the electronic journal and online courses at school and at home. Employees of paramedic and obstetric centers can now promptly advise residents and transfer data to colleagues even during field trips.
Residents also have access to voice calls using VoLTE technology. The service provides crystal clear sound and instant connection – the subscriber can communicate on the phone and use the Internet at the same time without loss of signal quality.
“The “Bridging the Digital Divide 2.0” project clearly shows how the collaboration of operators allows us to solve the important task of making modern technologies accessible to everyone. We quickly expand coverage without building new base stations, optimizing costs and infrastructure. Thanks to this, residents of even the most remote settlements have access to the same digital services as in cities. During our participation in the project, more than 26 thousand rural residents were provided with our communications in the region,” said Andrey Kim, director of MegaFon in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
“In addition to the federal project “Eliminating the Digital Divide 2.0,” the region has been implementing a regional state program since 2017, where municipalities are allocated funding for the construction of communication facilities. Telecom operators are actively participating in this program, creating the necessary communication infrastructure in small villages and villages. Thus, through joint efforts we are developing territories and improving the quality of life of villagers,” said Nikolai Raspopin, Minister of Digital Development of the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
