Keir Starmer and Donald Trump reaffirm that Iran must not be able to develop nuclear weapons

Iran must not be able to develop “never” nuclear weapons, was the idea emphasized by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Donald Trump during a telephone conversation held on Tuesday night, a spokesman for the British executive said.

The Iranian file was just one of the topics addressed by the two leaders, indicated the quoted spokesperson, adding that Keir Starmer and Donald Trump also discussed Ukraine and the ongoing negotiations in Geneva, where the Ukrainian, Russian and American delegations are seeking to reach a negotiated solution to the conflict triggered by Russia in this country, as well as the situation in the Gaza Strip and peace in the Middle East, according to Agerpres.

The British Prime Minister condemned once again “brutal attacks” of Russian President Vladimir Putin's army against innocent civilians in Ukraine and the need to obtain one “just and lasting peace”.

Regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, Keir Starmer emphasized the importance of ensuring greater access to humanitarian aid for Palestinians in the enclave. Also, the British Prime Minister expressed his support for the ongoing efforts to implement the US-led peace plan, added the mentioned spokesperson.

“Both leaders reaffirmed their joint commitment to promote stability and peace in the Middle East”the same source said, adding that Starmer and Trump addressed the status of ongoing talks between the United States and Iran in Geneva regarding Iran's nuclear program.

“Both agreed that Iran must never be able to develop a nuclear weapon and reiterated the need for close collaboration among allies and partners to improve regional security.”said the spokesperson of the Downing Street institution.

Iran and the US held negotiations in Geneva on Tuesday, where they did not discuss directly, but through the Sultanate of Oman, in order to reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear program.
