An armed 18-year-old was arrested outside the Capitol. “He had a supply of ammunition”


An 18-year-old man armed with a shotgun got out of a car parked near the Capitol and began running toward Congress, Capitol Police said at a news conference. The man complied with the officers' commands, who ordered him to drop the weapon. The 18-year-old then lay down on the ground and was detained by police officers. No one was injured.

The man was wearing a tactical vest and tactical gloves, according to Capitol Police. He had a supply of ammunition. A helmet and a gas mask were also found in his car. The 18-year-old, who does not live in Washington, was not previously known to the services.
“Our officers just arrested an unidentified person with an object resembling a weapon near the west side of the United States Capitol building,” the Capitol Police previously wrote in a news release. She also notified about the temporary one closing several streets near the Capitol in connection with the activities of investigators. “There do not appear to be any other suspects or threats at this time,” it said.
Representatives from both houses of Congress are out of Washington this week.
