SNSPA suspends its classes on Wednesday, due to the orange code of snow and blizzard in Bucharest

The National School of Political and Administrative Studies (SNSPA) has announced the suspension of all courses scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, 2026, in the context of the code orange meteorological warning of heavy snow, consistent layer of snow and blizzard issued for Bucharest.

“For the safety of students, teaching staff and the entire university community, all teaching activities are suspended during Wednesday, February 18, 2026. They will be rescheduled and recovered later, in accordance with the decisions adopted at the level of each academic structure,” states the university.

SNSPA is the first university to announce the suspension of classes due to weather conditions.

On Wednesday, all educational units in Giurgiu county will be closed, where classes will be held online.

Code orange for blizzard and snow in Bucharest and 12 counties

Starting on Tuesday, at 20:00, a code orange warning of heavy snow and blizzard comes into force for Bucharest and 12 counties, where a layer of snow of up to 50 centimeters will be deposited.

In Muntenia and in the south of Moldova, it will snow abundantly and a consistent layer of snow will be deposited, with thicknesses of 20…50 cm (equivalent in water of 20…50 l/m2). The wind will have strong intensifications with gusts of 60…85 km/h (with the highest speeds in the counties of Vrancea, Galați, Buzău, Brăila, Ialomița and Călăraşi). There will be strong blizzard, snow will be trojan and visibility will drop below 50 m.

The capital and 12 counties are affected by this weather warning: Argeș, Teleorman, Dâmbovița, Giurgiu, Ilfov, Prahova, Călăraşi, Ialomița, Brăila, Buzău, Vrancea and Galați. The alert expires on Wednesday, at 12 o'clock, according to ANM.

Up to 45 cm of snow in Bucharest

According to the special forecast for Bucharest, between February 17, 10:00 a.m. and February 18, 8:00 a.m., the weather will cool down, the sky will be cloudy and there will be mixed precipitation (rain, sleet, and snow), and in the evening, precipitation is possible. It will snow overnight and a layer of snow will fall, generally 20–35 cm thick. Accumulated water quantities will be 25–40 l/m2.

Winds will gust to 50–70 km/h, there will be blizzards and low visibility. The maximum temperature will be 2–3 degrees, and the minimum around -1 degree.

For the interval February 18, 8:00 a.m. – February 19, 10:00 a.m., meteorologists announce that it will continue to snow until lunchtime (5–10 cm), so that the total snow layer will have varying thicknesses, on average, of 25–45 cm. The maximum temperature will be 2–3 degrees, and the minimum between -5 and -3 degrees.

Between February 17, 10:00 a.m. and February 19, 10:00 a.m., the capital is under a weather advisory for cooling the weather. Also, between February 17, 10:00 a.m. and February 18, 12:00 p.m., Bucharest is under a yellow code for quantitatively significant precipitation, hail and wind intensifications.

From tonight, from 8:00 p.m. until Wednesday, at 12:00 p.m., a code orange weather warning will be in effect in Bucharest for heavy snowfall, a consistent layer of snow and blizzard.
